Brand History
“The Rolls-Royce” is a recognized leader among luxury car manufacturers. The brand exists since 1906, it was created by a brilliant engineer Henry Royce in collaboration with the entrepreneur and owner of car dealerships Charles Rolls. Thanks to the efforts of two outstanding people the company Rolls-Royce Limited was founded, positioning itself as a manufacturer of luxury cars.
In 1971, the company produced a cabriolet based on Silver Shadow under the name Corniche. It was the first open-shell vehicle developed by Rolls-Royce without the use of coachbuilders. However, the financial difficulties that have followed the company since the early 60s, the resource-intensive development of the aircraft engine, and Corniche itself finally undermined the financial health of the brand.
After 67 years of successful work, the company, which is considered a national property of Great Britain, went bankrupt. But this did not put an end to the brand itself. The rights to produce exclusive cars under the brand Rolls-Royce passed to other owners. From 1998 to the present day the brand belongs to the car manufacturer BMW.
In that context, it is worth noting that the Government, headed by M. Thatcher, was concerned about the rescue of the company. After a $250 million cash injection, Rolls-Royce Motor Holding was split into two companies – Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd, which produced cars, components, motors, locomotives, and light aircraft, and Rolls-Royce Ltd, which produced jet engines.
In 1980, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd acquired the military-industrial concern Vickers, which invested about 40 million pounds sterling in the reconstruction of the plant in Crewe. In 1994, the brand celebrated its 90th anniversary by producing a limited edition of 50 cars model Rolls-Royce Flying Spur. Also, Silver Spur II Touring Limousine was released, and its price was 300 thousand dollars.
